ABOUT ST OSYTH PARISH COUNCIL

Responsibilities of The Parish Council:
The Parish Council of St Osyth is a legal entity which operates at a level below Tendring District Council and Essex County Council each of which has different responsibilities.

The Parish Council is an elected body which helps on a number of local issues, like:

  • consultation on neighbourhood planning
  • consultation on highways and local health and safety issues
  • allotments
  • almshouses
  • war memorials, signage, floral displays
  • planters, litter bins
  • bus stops, bus shelters
  • the village hall
  • parking
  • trees
  • footpaths
  • recreation facilities, open spaces
  • play areas and play equipment
  • open spaces
  • grants to help local organisations
  • the cemetery
  • supporting community activities
  • crime statistics
  • community speed watch

The Parish Council can also facilitate fixed penalty fines for things like:

  • litter
  • graffiti
  • fly posting
  • dog offences

The St Osyth Parish Council also cooperates with and communicates with Tendring District Councils, Essex County Council and the Police.

The Parish Council also reviews all planning applications within the parish boundaries. Although final decisions lie with Tendring District Council, the views of the Parish Council are taken into account.

The Parish Council has an annual budget which is overseen by an independent finance officer.

Parish Council Meetings
Parish Council Meetings are normally held on the third Thursday of the month and there is an Annual General Meeting in April or May. These meetings are open to the public but if you wish to speak at the meetings, you need to contact the Clerk to the Parish Council before attending (contact details below). There is an Annual Parish Meeting in the Village Hall every April, which is attended by the Parish Council, representatives from local organisations and the general public.
